KU hosts a UT-level conference on peace education.

The University of Kashmir hosted a UT-level conference on peace education on December 2.
The Department of Social Work (DoSW) organised the day-long conference in collaboration with the Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) and Save the Children, a non-governmental organisation.
More than 200 people attended the event, including scholars and educators from KU and DSEK, as well as 30 children from government schools in Budgam, Anantnag, and Srinagar.
Prof Nilofer Khan, Vice Chancellor, University of Kashmir, presided over the closing session and praised the organisers for bringing together all key stakeholders to discuss themes related to peace education in J&K schools.

The VC emphasised the importance of teachers and children in making peace education a reality so that children can face future challenges.
Prof. Irshad A Nawchoo, Dean Research KU; Dr. Nisar Ahmed Mir, Registrar KU; Dr. Shazia Manzoor, Head DoSW; and Dr. Ata-ul-Muneem Tak, Personnel Officer DSEK. Mr Sudarshan Suchi, CEO of Save the Children, and Sharif Bhat, Head of Save the Children, both spoke at the event and shared their observations and plans for the future.
Later, the Vice-Chancellor launched a web-based peace education portal developed in collaboration with Save the Children and DSEK, with funding from the HCL Foundation.

Earlier, various technical sessions were chaired by Prof Pervez Ahmed, HoD Geography & Disaster Management KU; Prof Mohammad Hussain, faculty School of Law KU; and Prof Showkat A Shah, Dean, Behavioural Sciences.
The conference’s organising secretaries were Dr. Aadil Bashir and Dr. Javaid Rashid.
The collaboration brought together Chief Education Officers, Zonal Education Officers, Teachers, and Head Masters to share their perspectives on peace education. The panellists and dignitaries praised the children’s perspectives.
