On December 9 at 2 p.m., the University Grants Commission will host a national webinar on “India’s Arctic Policy: Scope and Opportunities.” The UGC previously requested that the Higher Education Institution (HEI) submit proposals for the development of massive open online courses (MOOCs) at the undergrad and postgrad levels for the SWAYAM platform on the six pillars of India’s Arctic Policy (IAP): science and research, climate and environmental protection, economic and human development, transportation and connectivity, governance and international cooperation, and national capacity building.
The UGC also asked the institutes to raise awareness among universities and colleges about the availability of Arctic/Polar studies courses, jobs, and research opportunities. The webinar, according to UGC, is being held to move this initiative forward. The show can be viewed live on the UGC YouTube channel, Twitter, and Facebook pages.
M. Ravichandran, Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), Government of India, Shailesh Nayak, Former Secretary, MoES, Government of India, and Dr Lars Kullerud, President, UArctic, will be among the distinguished speakers. On March 17, 2022, the Centre released India’s Arctic Policy, titled ‘India and the Arctic: Building a Partnership for Sustainable Development.’
