Review of the thriller Blurr, Taapsee Pannu

Review of the film Blurr: This year has provided us with a number of delicious thrillers to binge on.

Blurr: The year 2022 will undoubtedly be remembered by genre fans as one in which Indian cinema really pushed the limits of narrative.

Taapsee Pannu continues her quest of choosing subjects that are daring but rewarding with Blurr, which is now streaming on ZEE5.

Blurr is a welcome addition to the bag of experimental films testing the audience’s taste. This decision has paid off for the actress because specialised audiences will undoubtedly love Blurr, a suspenseful thriller in which she plays two roles.

The directing and cinematography are the true heroes of the movie, in addition to the performances that keep you riveted to what’s happening on screen.

In the hills of Uttarakhand, the story takes place.

The setting naturally fits the theme of the film, which tries to isolate the protagonist, as the movie was shot in chilly weather. Blurr has a moody background score that assists in gradually raising the tension.

The plot is full of twists and turns, and it generally succeeds in creating a sense of intrigue that is suggested in the first act.

Gautami, Gayatri’s identical twin sister, is discovered dead in her apartment under unexplained circumstances, but Gayatri knows deep down that the official cause of death is not suicide.

Using her intuition and the twin effect, she then sets out to discover what happened to her sister.

Taapsee performs the necessary actions for the movie. However, she did something akin to this in Dobaaraa. She doesn’t really have to play two characters because one of them only has a small amount of screen time and is there to establish the plot.

As Gayatri, Taapsee successfully conveys the paranoia of a partially blind woman who is experiencing the trauma of a personal loss as well as having to continue on her path by herself to discover the truth.

She is forced into a corner by the plot, where she is cast as the underdog who must struggle to survive or give up.

Neel, played by Gulshan Devaiah, did a respectable job in the supporting role. He looks good next to Taapsee and fits the role he plays well.

However, Abhilash Thapliyal is the surprise because he digs into his persona and gives us something intriguing. His portrayal enhances the storytelling and gives the movie another layer.

The movie is clearly divided into two parts by director Ajay Bahl. The mystery is mostly set up in the first half, which is fast-paced and in which we question the protagonist’s sanity. The pace slightly slows down in the second half.

By this time, the treatment and visual tone of the movie have also come together, and the director now takes us on a ride with sudden turns. The plot’s unpredictable nature keeps readers playing the waiting game.

The movie Blurr fulfils all the requirements for a thriller. It’s visually appealing, has a strong plot, and is expertly directed.
