US records over 25 million flu cases

US records over 25 million flu cases
More than 25 million flu cases have been reported in the US this season, according to the CDC. The system monitors visits for respiratory illness.

Americans were admitted to hospitals with flu-related illnesses.

In the most recent week ending January 14, the CDC reported on Friday that there were more than 6,300 flu-related hospitalisations in the US.

According to the most recent estimates made public by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there have been at least 25 million illnesses, 270,000 hospitalisations, and 17,000 flu-related deaths in the US so far this season (CDC).

The Xinhua news agency reported that six paediatric flu-related deaths were reported this week, bringing the season’s total of paediatric flu deaths to 85.

To avoid infection and serious consequences,

The CDC urged people to get their annual flu shot.

On December 12 in New York, United States, health officials strongly advised residents to wear masks as COVID-19, the flu, and RSV cases have been on the rise.

Influenza-like illness, also known as respiratory illness with fever and a cough or sore throat, is tracked by the CDC every week in its influenza surveillance report.

It does not use lab-confirmed influenza cases but rather patient visits for illnesses of the respiratory system with comparable symptoms.

However, the data agrees with mid-January hospital data from Michigan.

Corewell West had 19 patients hospitalised with the flu as of Thursday, January 19.

There were 14 of these patients at Corewell East, formerly Beaumont Health.

According to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, 2.3% of outpatient medical visits in Michigan last week were for flu-like illness, which was lower than the previous week’s rate (3.4%) and the regional baseline (2.5%).

Kooistra didn’t want to say that Michigan is completely free of the flu just yet because some flu seasons have a secondary spike in the spring.

However, fewer respiratory infections provide healthcare workers with a “nice reprieve.”

RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) cases in hospitals, according to Kooistra, are still declining while COVID-19 cases have plateaued.

As of Friday, Corewell Health had between 70 and 80 COVID-positive patients admitted, with 40 percent of them having entered the facility for purposes other than their coronavirus infection.

Hospitals are still very busy, according to Kooistra, despite the lower wave of seasonal illnesses.

Patients who require immediate attention and closer monitoring keep coming in.

Many of them neglected preventative care throughout the pandemic, which made their conditions worse when they did seek medical attention.
